Did you know that July is named after the Roman dictator Julius Caesar? Julius reformed the calendar in 46 B.C. Following his death in 44 B.C, his birth month was designated July in his honor. Previously, it was known as Quintilis, meaning “the fifth month” in the old Roman calendar, before January and February were added.

Join us for an even bigger and better Independence Day Celebration!
The event kicks off on Friday, July 4th at 6pm with music by Ear Candy at the Braxton/Hall Pavilion (located by the soccer fields)! Ear Candy specializes in Classic Rock and “Feel Good Tunes” to keep you on the dance floor!
Food trucks, including Belle on Wheels, will be on site beginning at 6pm!
The fireworks show will begin at dusk, approximately 9:15PM at Engler Park.
Spectators are welcome to view the show from the Ragsdale Baseball Field parking lot, Hager Tennis Courts parking lot, soccer fields, Giessing Lake parking lot, as well as roadside parking along Airpark Drive.

Lawn chairs are welcome and parking is available throughout the park. Tune in to 960 KZIM and 1400 KSIM to listen to the night’s events. At 8:45 p.m., tune into any River Radio station for patriotic music and a countdown to the fireworks display.
7:00 PM: Arena Park opens for tailgating.
7:30 PM: Patriotic music by Cape Girardeau Municipal Band.
8:00 PM: Southeast Missourian Spirit of America Award and remarks from Southeast Missourian and city dignitaries.

The Cape West Rotary Duck Regatta is a family-friendly way to kick off the start of the summer season and raise money for Special Olympics and the Cape West Rotary Foundation!
Our races are held at Cape Splash in partnership with the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Aquatics team. Come cheer on your duck as it races around the Lazy River. Be sure to wear your swimsuit, because you can enjoy the entire waterpark during the two-hour event and even hit the Lazy River between races. Summer fun awaits!
Prizes? You bet! We’ve secured some awesome donations to award to our speediest ducks. Maybe it’ll be yours!
Also, don’t miss the opportunity to boast with pride as your civic group, classroom or business adopts a quacker for the Big Chief Business Battle Race. Decorate your duck and show off your crew’s pride, and maybe you’ll score a prize in the top three!
